Adoption in China

Nanchang Social Welfare Institute

A family adopting in July 2000 relates this experience:  We were told on the bus from the Nanchang airport that the babies would be given to us that evening (it seems everybody is warned of this happening). Kris and I went up to our room to anxiously wait, and literally raced down the stairs (it seemed quicker than the elevator at the time) to the room in which the babies were being given to their new parents. We were one of the last to be called, and I began video-recording the moment when they gave Lin to Kris. Minutes later, one of the orphanage staff raced up to Kris with another baby (Lin) - as it seemed that we had been given the wrong child! So much for what nerves we had left.  (SK)
