Xiushui Orphanage



2006-06 - We traveled in June of 2004 to receive our beautiful Xiushui girl.  Our group with GWCA had 47 families but only 5 of us got Xiushui girls (1 set of twins!).  Our daughter was 16 lbs. at 10 1/2 months, in GREAT health, & adjusted pretty quickly.  She was in Foster Care the whole time and did not crawl or feed herself when we got her, but caught up VERY quickly.  She started learning her alphabet at 18 months and said to my Mom on her 2nd birthday "hey Grandma, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11".  She was pretty much potty trained when we got her & by the time she was 18 or 19 months she was totally in underwear (except at night)  Mr. Rong was very nice & so loving towards all the girls.  It was a wonderful experience!! 2004-11 - My husband and I traveled to Nanchang with six other couples whose children all were from the XiuShui Orphanage.  We received our referrals, I believe, in February 2002.  We were scheduled to leave in May, however the SARS outbreak happened and the WHO (world health organization) banned travel.  So we didn't get to leave until the middle of July.  We met our daughter in Nanchang where the adoption was finalized.  She was 10 months old at this time, and weighed 17 pounds.  All the other babies were in very good health also. Four families from England received their referral for a child from this orphanage in June 2002.  They were told  that they were the first international adoptions for this orphanage.  They were told that this is a new orphanage, only about a year old.  The map shows Xiushui to be in the northwest corner of Jiangxi province.  All four babies in this group were in foster care and they seemed to have been very well cared for.  They were healthy, lively and happy babies. One mom reported that her Xiushui daughter was much healthier and more developed when adopted at the age of 9 months than her big sister was when adopted at the age of one years old. (JR, a. 7/02)

Then in July 2002 I heard from two families from Ireland with referrals from XiuShui.  They will possibly be traveling at the end of August so hopefully they will have some more information to share with us.  And a family in the US received their referral in August 2002.
